Between the Pages: Book

Whilst at the charity shop, I also brought a couple of different books that had an old look to them. I thought this fits in well with my project due to the sense of history, age and previous ownership. The book works as a story that we all carry with us, often containing marks such as creased pages, handwriting, stains or fading which indicates lived experiences. Buying the book from a charity shop relates back to the idea of memory. The object has been disregarded by someone yet has been preserved and then found by someone else. This is much like old letters or memories that resurface over time.

I added more damage to the book to emphasis the worn use of it. To start, I poured water over the book and then dunked it into a bowl of water. I was wanting this to create a used look, as well as causing the pages to become mouldable. I put the book not unnatural positions and used a peg to try and let it dry in that way. I also painted the cover of the book using brown acrylic paint as I wanted to emphasis the creases left behind.

The reason I am uncertain on whether I want to include the book is because I want more things I have made opposed to having brought, despite the fact I have distorted it.
