Exhibition Space: Visit 2
It had previously been decided that those who are finishing their final year will take priority when it comes to the space for their work to be presented, as well as downstairs being designated initially to people who have family unable to use stairs.
At this moment in time, there hasn’t been a sit-down conversation between us to designate a rough idea for spacing, instead we have images of the space on a wall in our studio where people ‘dibs’ where they want their work to be exhibited. This works okay to begin with; however you can see people expecting the exhibit a lot of work and taking up a variety of spaces before everyone has a place.
Whilst there we discussed a couple of different options for my work, one being my original idea of wanting them all against the wall descending from smallest at the top to the biggest at the bottom (almost laid out like steps). There was discussion of potentially putting them on plinths, however I don’t like this idea as I think white blocks underneath them ruins the aesthetic and the look I am going for, they would be more successful ‘floating’ opposed to sat on something. There are hooks on the roof, and this was the final idea that was spoken about in terms of exhibiting my work. If I attach 2 chains to my suitcases and hook them to the roof, I can leave them to float in the middle of the room. I thought this would be different, be eye catching and something that will draw people in, but I wanted to have more control of the distance between them and the overall outcome opposed to having them randomly ordered in the middle of the room.
