Dried Flowers

I have decided I wanted to dry flowers as a part of my exploration and as an inclusion into my cases. The flowers act as a symbol of memory, preservation and emotional attachment. Fresh flowers tend to be associated with specific moments, gifts, relationships and a temporary experience, however, as they dry they start to resemble the passing of time and the fragility of memory.

By hanging them upside down in my bedroom window, it allowed natural time and environmental factors to play a part opposed to artificially forcing preservation. I recorded the slow drying process as it reflects the gradual fading and change in memories. Putting the dried flowers into the vintage cases helps to create a personal archive, turning ordinary objects into emotional evidence of the past and a support for the idea of unsent letters being containers of unresolved feelings and remembrance. Flowers are also a symbol for death, and this works nicely with my theme of memory, loss, regrets and things left unsaid.
